Cats has been hailed as one of the worst movies of the year, but I decided to go see it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised and confused by the reviews. I think the casting was terrific, especially Jennifer Hudson who I wanted to jump to my feet and applaud when she sang Memory for the last time. Laurie Davidson as Mr. Mistoffelees, Robbie Fairchild as Munkustrap and Jason Derula as Rum Tum Tugger all stand out to me as great performers. So many times movie musicals fail to cast good singers and I think Cats did a very good job with their singing and dancing. Where the movie falls short is the weird scenery and the creepy people acting likes cats. It was hard to get past the way the movie visually looked , but the performances kept me entertained enough to not feel like I wasted my time.
I give it a 4 out of 7 stars.
